PostSubject: Greetings from Vegas   Wed Aug 27, 2014 11:53 am

Hi There Nickname is Jake and I Live in Las Vegas
I have a 1942 91\30 that I’ve been modifying
So far I’ve cut the barrel down from 28.75” to 22”,
Re-crowned it and threaded it for a muzzle brake put on a Witt Machine MB3 Brake
Put on a Timmy Trigger (that I love)
ATI scope mount (that I don’t like), ATI Bent Bolt (That I Hate) Both will be changed soon going with Rock Solid
Archangel Stock That I love

Also did a Camo Paint Job
I bought this Mosin with the plan to make a fun shooter out of it and now I'm finding I'm kind of missing my old stock Mosin
think after a little time goes by (can't do too much too soon the wife will have a fit) I can get a stock M44 to keep stock

how much time do you guys think is required for the wife to forget how much I've put into this one?

lol!!  Welcome aboard Jake! That sounds like a fun shooter.

The Standard Spousal Weapons Waiting Period (S.W.P. for short) Is 2 paychecks last I recall.

However, this may fall into the Fun Without Spouse Catagory (F.W.S.). If so, you are looking at 2 months, If atleast 1 romantic calender holiday falls within that time frame (Anniversary’s not included).  Otherwise, it is 7.62 months.

Ofcourse, there is always the W.S.D.K.W.H.H. (what she doesnt know wont hurt her) clause.

Hope this helps out. zoinks

well went out shooting Saturday to test my hand loads
and after trying to zero my mosin through the first three strings
I realized my ATI Scope mount was loose AGAIN I've about had it with this mount
Rock Solid here I come soon as I save up the cash

any way I did shoot half my rounds to get some muzzle velocity data
laddered rounds they seemed to shoot nice got the speed up to 2451fps avg at max load 45.9g IMR4064
the IMR reload center web site said to expect 2432fps so I'm actually a little faster witch I like
but still don't know witch one my rifle likes cause that dam scope mount keeps loosening up

so I found some .311 174g matchkings and going to try this ATI mount one more time wile waiting for the RockSolid mount
going to get some IMR4350 powder my local supplier has some and it seems to be a popular powder for 180g ammo hopefully my next ammo testing trip goes better

That is a top notch looking rifle Jake! WOW

I think you will like the 4350 alot.

What is the exact problem with the ATI mount? The 2 bolts that hold it on are coming loose?

Are you using the bolts that come with the mount?

So tell me about the paint job? Twisted Evil  Im a painter by trade, so thats my secret little obsession.

yes I am using the screws that came with it also been using blue Loctite
last time I used two little dabs of JB weld too but I didn't clean the paint off first
so this time I'm going to scrub out all the threads with cleaner and use a little more JB after I clean off the paint where the surfaces touch

I'm not convinced I had it totally clean last time

as far as the ATI bolt handle I just hate that tiny little cheesy looking thing
and I have no leverage when it comes to the sticky bolt
each time I shoot it I find new areas of the bolt I want to polish
I figure if I can get the surfaces that have to touch smoother they should operate better
not sure though if I high polish or a matt finish would actually operate better

the paint job I used rattle cans of Krylon Camo paint
first tape off everything you don't want painted
started out with Khaki spray the whole thing
then I wrapped hemp string in a kinda sloppy random pattern wrap all the way down
dust it pretty good with Olive Camo Paint you shouldn't cover it completely just random covering
next don't take off the hemp string but wrap again with para cord sloppy random pattern again
dust it again this time with Brown Camo Paint random light covering let dry unwrap
it was really easy to do

Nice. Yup ive done several like that. Used leaves and wisk broom and netting to get the pattern. I think I prefer that kind, over the fancy stuff.
Heres one I did a few years ago.
