PostSubject: 1960's Finn M39 BBL no recvr and the 1960's rcvr I aquired   Sun Sep 25, 2016 2:26 pm

Hello there just found this forum in a search so new here.

I collect Finnish Mosins and have a couple that were MODIFIED
by someone and did some monkeying with them to make them
shootable kool lookin Finns.

ANYWAY

I acquired a near new looking 1967 M39 bbl with sights
In search of a good HEX RCVR for her and stumble on a
M39 BBL and RCVR with some spare parts a 1968. Well
the BBL on that RCVR is SPLIT blew the stock to pcs ect
no details on why or what.

I want to remove the split bbl fromt he old hex and have the
1967 put into it to build a scoped M39 in an after market stock.

I need to aquire a BBL/Rcvr wrench. About 170$ on Fleabay for
a one time use.... ok I can always resell at 150$ no biggie

When yall talk about torquing to 200ft ect how and what kind of
torque wrench are you using with the home made wrenches that
im seeing???

here was my last project POOR M91 someone hacked off a foot and put a deer slug sight on her..

end result after redoing bbl and added a M39 front sight for looks, JMEK scope mount and an old weaver. i took a damaged handguard and shortned it and shimmed for an authentic look lol.

anyways appreciate any help on the M39 bbl swap project you could give me.

WElcome aboard buddy! It can be pretty quiet around here sometimes, but we aint goin nowhere. Smile
You asked how do we torque with the wrenches pictures.

The wrenches are usually only about 6-8" long. And then a breaker bar/tube in slid over the wrench handle. Sometimes even welded on. This increases the leverage.

As far as calculating torque. Mostly its a big guess. But I know many that use torque wrenches daily at our day jobs, and can guess quite accurately. Conversely, 2 guys using the same torque wrench can use it in such a manner, that they get two different readings. However, this application is not that critical.

But I did make a 'socket' that I can use in conjunction with my torque wrench, to put my actions on with, so I know exactly what torque they are.

If I can polish the face of the action and the seat of the barrel tenon, I torque to about 100 ft/lbs.

On a rifle with a brand new barrel, I use diamond paste to polish the face of the receiver, and torque to 75ft/lbs.

thanks guys, the bbl will be here in the near days... weeks.... lol  and I will post pics of what I have so far. I picked up a like new no pitting complete bolt this week for her also. I have a good friend who is a smith so i will have some help at least also.

The fact I found the 1967 M39 BBL and a 1968 BBL on a receiver is a lil more than I expected I would locate. I have 170$ into it without the bolt so far.

My good M39 is a 1945 minty one of 6500 known Sako's from 45. Shoots like a dream.

Well the box came with a lil more than I paid for. Complete damaged stock with all
the hardware and half a handguard. Finn magazine and Finn trigger also there. no
bolt as I knew. The stock I think I can repair im good with wood working. I stripped
the gun lots of cosmo in the trigger area still. BORE looked pristene except for the crack
all along the top. WOW cant imagine the shooters shock.

I removed the sights and stuff I can salvage off the old bbl. I dont have a wrench and
have a bid from a company to remove, and install new check headspace ect. $150.00
may be worth it vs me with out the proper mosin tools to do the job.

PICS ATTACHED
