PostSubject: Target M91/30 Build    Tue Mar 13, 2012 4:10 am

Hey guys, starting a new m91 project. Its a target purpose build. Hears what i have so far...
[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

Rock solid ind scope mount, timney trigger, and the bolt assembly that i have cut and redone the bolt knob and the cocking knob.

Trimmed as much weight as i felt would be safe and installed a wolff 26lbs firing pin spring. Trying to do as much for lock time
as i can. Also polished everything internally.

The stock is made by a guy named Aaron Henderson with lowel guitars the best looking mosin stock on the market by far if you ask me
its beautiful. Installed rock solid pillers and bedded with accura glass gel.

Trimmed 2 3/4 in off the barrel and gave it a 11 degree target crown. Shaved the rear sight.

A good start your your input is welcome things i could do to make it better.
More to come as the project continues.... [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

You ever thought about doing a 'straight jacket' to the barrel. I assume you have a lathe, you could do it yourself. [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

100yds I assume?

Oh man thats SWEET! Well done. Thats the load I have been wanting to
shoot. I have IMR4350. Great results, but I heard the Accurate4350 is a
tad better in our application. [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

I have the same stock, so the only suggestion I can think of is, make sure you fit that action to the stock REALLY well.

yes its at 100 yds and thanks ya i had to do quite a bit of fitment to get it just right and 3 rounds with the accuglass to get the bedding just right. i am going to try n-135 on my next loads i have a buddy that is getting sub 1/2 in groups with it but i think he is a little better shot than i am. he is the only guy i have seen put 3 rounds in one hole at 200m. well good luck with yours.

As a side not i have changed out the cheek rest for a kydex adjustable and changed to burris rings.

Sweet-looking stock for your mosin. The only good thing about the bolt handle in its original position is that, since I am a left-handed firer, I can reach over the receiver, pull up, pull back, push forward, and down. It would have been nice to have a left handed bolt for me, but I love my mosin and will never look back. Getting a sniper version (I'm not too big on authenticity) will do me no good. We'll see.

I think it would be possible to build a left-handed bolt handle to clear a PE or PU type scope mount on a Mosin, without altering the receiver. Instead of bending down as soon as it's clear of the receiver and stock, the handle would bend back, then curve over the receiver behind the scope mount and finish going out straight on the left side. You'd push down instead of pulling up to operate the bolt, but it would come out the same way (i.e. open the bolt and hold the trigger back as you pull it clear). Yes, it would look a bit odd -- but it would work about as well as a left-handed action on a sporting rifle, IMO.

Sweet! That'd be kewl to see. Kinda makes my brain hurt picturing it. Push down to open bolt. Push up to close. I bet someone will try it. If I had a spare laying around, I would tack some rod on just to see how that feels.
